My new WebGallery & Lightroom Plugins

Since this site is currently running on my home server and I didn’t want to put the extra traffic on my ADSL connection, I decided to store the photos on one of these more or less nice Photosites like Picasaweb, Flickr or Fotocommunity instead…

I chose Flickr because they give me 100MB of space every month whereas Picasaweb only gives me 1GB at all. Plus everyone knows Flickr and I don’t need Google’s Picasa Software (I am using Adobe Lightroom). I was too tired to try the others…

You can visit my new WebGallery here. (Currently only available to Family & Friends)

O.K. now that I have a Flickr account, I was looking for an easy way to upload photos. I came across http://www.flickr.com/tools/ but none of the tools listed fit my needs. Since I use Lightroom to develop and organise my photos I would have to export the photos in Lightroom and then process them in one of the tools… Waaaaaaaaay to complicated ;) So I googled for a plugin for Lightroom and found: Jeffrey’s Export to Flickr Lightroom Plugin

Installation is described here. To upload photos I will now have to:

  1. Select a few photos from the collection
  2. Open the export dialog
  3. Select Flickr from the Drop-Down box
  4. Authenticate against Flickr and grant access to the plugin
  5. Set the stuff I want (like resolution, copyright, visibility, security, …)
  6. Click Export

You might think that that is way more complicated than one of the other tools. But since you only have to setup the plugin once it’s actually as easy as selecting the photos and exporting them to Flickr.  Sadly it me took serveral minutes to upload just one photo :(

Did I already mention that you can now visit my new Gallery at http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisk-de/? :P Photos are currently only available to Friends & Family so just drop me a message to add you. But I am going to make some photos public soon. Stay tuned and don’t forget to subscribe to my RSS-Feed.

Yeah I also like Flickr, especially because you can become a member with unlimited storage for only 2$/month. But you forgot to mention what kinda photos you’re going to upload ;)

    Mhhh I don’t like Flickr… :(
jAlbum doesn’t look that good and you would need a bigger pipe, but you can at least control exactly who may access photos and who may not!

  3. I also thought about copyright issues with flickr.
But since you can restrict access to Family and/or Friends I think that isn’t a real problem. As long as I can trust Flickr :?

Yep! It was really disgusting to click the accept button every time :)

  5. This plugin is brilliant, he’s also created a similar plugin to upload to facebook, which is great for my wife to use…
